Our students are the core of the MaastrichtMBA programme. Students with a broad diversity on nationality, age and even professional background. The insights and thoughts of our MBA students describe the true experience of MaastrichtMBA. This time we talked with our Australian student Jacques Schipper. He works as Lead Principal Finance Business Partner at BHP, a world-leading resources company. Jacques joined our Online MBA track in January 2023.
To decode corporate wizardry and learn the art of leadership, one must understand business strategies and develop key leadership qualities such as emotional intelligence, effective communication, and the ability to inspire and motivate teams.
My focus is mostly on the non-technical skills side, and create a more complete toolkit for business challenges as well as to communicate more effectively.
The leadership development track attracted me because it focuses on essential leadership skills, practical applications, and personal development. The chance to learn from professionals and network with peers also influenced my choice.
Mainly focussed on the non-technical skills, relationship building as well as use a bit of creative allowances away from spreadsheets and negotiations.
My goal was to become a more well-rounded individual. The benefit was gaining a better understanding of leadership impact and abilities, all while pretending to understand complex financial reports and sipping fancy coffee.
The elective weeks have made a significant difference for me during the programme. The interaction has built character, added a bit of sunburn, and fostered good friendships.
Don’t worry, you’ll love it! If you have any doubts, feel free to reach out to me or invite me for a beer to chat.
